FRICKLEY manager Billy Heath, forced to reshuffle his team due to numerous players being unavailable, was rewarded with a spirited display from those available to deservedly take the spoils in their
friendly match at Goole on Saturday.

Immediately after the kick-off, Rob Pell signalled the Blues intentions by striking a 40-yard shot, which drifted just wide of the right post.

Visiting goalkeeper Jon Hood was called into action to make a brace of routine saves before the UniBond Premier Division side threatened in the 15th minute, Danny Walsh shaving the bar from the edge of the penalty area.

Receiving a long throw-in seven minutes later, Walsh rode two challenges as he cut inside but his left-footed shot from eight yards went over the target.

Frickley gained reward in the 43rd minute with slick passing movement, which saw Walsh picking out Dean Wilburn, who took the ball in his stride to fire the ball by the home goalkeeper from 18 yards.

But disaster struck for the visitors in the opening minute of the second half.

Chris Gowen got his head to a long ball pumped forward by the Goole defence and intended to steer it back to goalkeeper Jon Hood.

But the ’keeper was behind him and the ball rolled agonisingly for Andy Parton to rush in an apply the finishing touch on the line to put the scores level.

Frickley continued to produce some probing attacks and regained the lead in 66th minute when a speculative 30-yard drive from Rob Pell proved too hot for the home stopper to handle and it burst through his fingers and into the net.

The see-saw encounter took another turn as Jamie Hainsworth swept in a shot via the underside of the bar to put Goole level a second time.

But the goal acted as a spur to the visitors and they went ahead for a third time in the 80th minute, Wilburn beating the Goole ’keeper to a through ball and lifting it over his opponent and into the net from 20 yards.

Frickley: Jon Hood, Jake White, Chris Gowen, Danny Walsh, Steve Heath, Dean Jones, Chris Hilton, Chris Davies, Rob Pell, Scott Brough, Dean Wilburn.
