FRICKLEY Colliery 2nds are still urgently in need of points to escape the threat of relegation from Division 2 of the Pontefract League after falling to defeat against fellow-strugglers Upper Haugh at the weekend.
Darren Hough was the hero with the bat for Upper Haugh with a superb, unbeaten, 136 to steer the visitors to an impressive 259-4.

Opener Robin Hyner (51) set the tempo for Upper Haugh, while Paul Kirkham was pick of the Frickley bowlers with 2-83.

In reply, Ian Kitchener (37), Ashley Vickers (34) and Scott Pinder (15) put in decent knocks for Frickley.

But the impressive visiting bowling attack of Adam Clarke (3-33) and Chris Stacey (2-39) saw Frickley close on 132-5 to pick up just the two points from a match they could have been looking to win.

It was a bad day for the Westfield Lane club, with Frickley 1st team also losing out to Featherstone to dent their chances of taking the Division 1 championship.

Colliery were leap-frogged by Streethouse at the weekend after falling to a heavy seven-wicket defeat.

Frickley were skittled out for just 145, J Robinson taking 6-32 for Featherstone, before the hosts needed just three wickets to reach their total and claim a shock win.

South Kirkby remain in mid-table in Division 1 after beating Whitley Bridge by 27-runs.

J Peacock (74no) was pick of the South Kirkby batters, while S Scott (39no), N Crooks (32) and opener J Rimmington (17) kept the runs ticking over as South Kirkby opened the batting and scored 196-7.

J Metcalfe (3-22), J Peace (2-27) and J Simpson (2-52) did the damage with the ball as Bridge struggled to 169 in reply.

In Division 3, Ryhill and Havercroft’s hopes of promotion remain slim after they fell to a heavy nine-wicket defeat against league leaders Allerton Bywater.

Ryhill batted first and made just 109-8, P Lomas leading the run scoring with 27.

And the Ryhill bowling attack couldn’t stop their opponents from cruising to 110-1, Lomas taking the only wicket.

Hemsworth MW remain in trouble at the wrong end of the division after falling to a close-fought defeat at Streethouse 2nds.

C Beaumont hit an unbeaten 74 for Hemsworth as they made 187-8 from their innings.

But the hosts made 188-7 to claim the win, M Robinson putting them on their way with an unbeaten 73.

In Division 4, South Kirkby 2nds remain in the hunt for promotion after coming out on top in a low-scoring affair with Featherstone.

D Rollin led the run scoring with 43 in South Kirkby’s 128, while the visitors were skittled out for just 89 in reply, A Lowery doing the damage with the ball with 4-35.

Things aren’t getting any easier for Ryhill and Havercroft 2nds, who prop up Division 6, after falling to a heavy defeat at Thurnscoe Institute.

Mick Eastwood hit an impressive 35 to get Ryhill off to a comfortable start, but only Ian Bragger (20) offered any support with the bat as Ryhill were restricted to just 73-9.

Edward Kaye (2-14) and Luke Moran (1-14) were in determined mood with the ball, but Thurnscoe eased to 78-3 to bag the win.
