BANNERS were displayed across Minsthorpe Community College to celebrate students' best ever exam results.
Principal Richard Brown said he had never seen such a massive improvement in the past 18 years for SATs, GCSE and post 16 results.

Three banners, which each have three gold medals on them, have been put up across the college in South Elmsall to praise students, staff and teachers for their hard work.

Mr Brown said: “The results have given us a real boost. I’ve been here 18 years and have never seen such a significant improvement across all three levels. I’m so proud of the students and they should be proud of themselves.”

The college celebrated a 98 per cent pass rate for A-level results this year as well as an improved points average.

GCSE results revealed 77.9 per cent of pupils got five or more grade C or above – an increase of 14 per cent on last year.

A massive 55.3 per cent of them got five or more A-C grades in English and maths.

SATs scores were also the highest-ever, with 71 per cent of pupils achieving a level five or higher in science, 78 per cent in maths and 74 per cent in English.

Mr Brown added: “The maths results showed the biggest improvement. A huge amount of effort went into encouraging the children and involving parents at the right times.

“The support staff were a valuable resource and we felt that pupils were on board and engaged.

“The Olympic-themed banners celebrate that Olympic athletes could soon be using the college facilities to train for the 2012 games, and show our pupils are high achievers across all subjects, not just sport.

“The banners have been put up where parents and children can see them on their way into college. They can recognise their achievements and be proud of themselves.”
