SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has confirmed it is set to open its new Hemsworth store next month.
And the Express understands it will be ready for trading on Monday, September 8.

So far the project has created 270 much-needed jobs for the area and Tesco is still looking to recruit more.

As part of the deal for the 57,000sq ft store, on land off Market Street, the supermarket chain agreed and built a new bus station, a new library and school in return for being allowed to build on the site of the old bus station and Grove Lea School.

Store manager Shirley Upon said: “The store team and I look forward to welcoming all our new customers when the store opens next month and will be open to any feedback they may have about the products and services we will offer.”

When fully operational, the store, which is the largest in the area, will have an in-house pharmacy, restaurant, full disabled access, car parking as well as selling a full range of foods, clothing and goods.

More than 1,000 locals joined in open days as the store looked for possible recruits.

Staff are now planning activities for the opening week and are continuing to work with local people and organisations from the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Tesco is still looking to recruit drivers and pickers. For more information, contact the recruitment team at the Cedar Business Centre, Barnsley Road, Hemsworth, or call 01977 624370.
