THERE is a great demand for band-style entertainment in this area and we now boast several excellent venues where you can hear the big bands when they come and play.
Incidentally, I hear that the hugely popular boy duo Brotherhood were a massive hit at the club a couple of weeks ago.
My spies tell me that Brotherhood really are worth watching out for.
Clubland favourite Analicia Ryan is set to return to Ryhill Liberal Club to make a Saturday night appearance this weekend.
I hear that Analicia hasn't been too well lately, so it's nice to see her back on stage again.
Ryhill Liberal Club really is enjoying some great acts lately.
Over the past few weeks there have been successful visits by club stars such as Darren Yorke, Jonathan Carroll and Graham Heath.
Darren has recently returned from living and working on the holiday island of Tenerife, while Jonathan is, of course, now widely recognised as a talent show organiser.
Graham Heath is a great guitarist and I'm told his club diary is always full.
In this week's column I was hoping to reveal more about the Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries Federation and its annual general meeting and showcase, which was intended to be held last week.
In the event the showcase was staged and acts like Paul Stewart, Jamie Ansbro, Russ Dean and The Sharp Experience were all down to appear.
Les Turfrey from the federation tells me that, due to a mix-up over a suitable room for the AGM, the meeting was not convened.
I'm told the meeting will now be held on Wednesday, May 21 at Westgate Common Club in Wakefield and that a showcase, which will be open to all club-goers will also be staged after the meeting.
I took a look at popular club star Johnnie Martell last week and I was surprised and delighted to find that this seasoned entertainer has developed the comedy side of his act.
Johnnie is very comfortable delivering the funnies and this comedy vocal angle is bound to pay handsome dividends in my view.
I hear that the Wakefield Starsearch competition, which is currently going through its heat stages at Westgate Common Club in Wakefield, is enjoying huge representation from this area
This is very good in terms of this particular column.
I shall be going along to help judge the final of this competition and I look forward to featuring all the acts who are successful enough to get to the final right here in the Express.
