Singers are all set to help hospice

Hemsworth West End club is the place to be on Tuesday, May 16 as a charity concert in aid of Martin House Hospice will be staged.
Glamorous clubland star Carrie Michaels will be topping the bill and talented local teenager Chelsea Radford is also set to appear.
Chelsea's proud mum Susan rang me last week to let me know that the family trip to Nashville in the United States, which was covered extensively by Delia Kitson in The Express, was a huge success for her.
This talented pupil of the great voice-coach Tony Wayne recorded Wind Beneath My Wings along with a huge orchestra and Susan described the experience as 'well worth the time and the huge expense'.
Performing in her own backyard at the West End club, people who haven't heard this talented teen before will be able to have a listen on Tuesday evening.
The Alpha club in Hemsworth is to re-start its entertainment programme on Saturday, May 20 with a visit from top duo Speed.
I chatted to the club's booking agents at Dukeries Entertainments last week and they tell me that the club is to stage Saturday and Sunday live entertainment from here onwards.
This is great news for the Hemsworth club scene.
Although we still have the Beeches, which is definitely on the up-and-up, and the Albion club, which is always busy, the body-blow of losing St Patrick's wmc – which has now been demolished – was hardly a good thing for anyone around here.
The re-introduction of social and entertainment evenings at the Alpha is bound to meet with broad approval and it should do extremely well in a business sense as well.
Clubland star Jonathan Carroll will present the Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries' Federation 'Newcomers of 2006' awards show this year.
This annual showcase of new talent will be staged at Sharlston Common wmc, which is situated between Wakefield and Pontefract and I know that some minibus trips are currently being arranged from all over the area.
On the night Jonathan will introduce new talent like Clare Matthews, Marc Gunyal and ESP.
Tickets are £1, and more information can be obtained by giving Jim Tomlin a call on 01977 794672.
