Rising star Eleisha set for centre stage

Hemsworth West End club is the place to be this weekend to see one of the area's rising stars Eleisha James, who takes to the stage at the club on Saturday night.
Eleisha was first brought to my attention by lovely South Elmsall lass Joanne Speight, who was formerly one half of local duo The Soulmates.
Joanne says Eleisha has put a lot of effort into becoming a clubland entertainer and I'm told she has made the most promising of starts.
The Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries' Federation will hold its next meeting and showcase evening at Horbury wmc ,Wakefield, on Thursday, August 3.
Pontefract agent and entertainer Malcolm James, normally seen as one half of the duo The Alex Experience, will present the show which features a new comedy drag act called Bows and Bangles.
Also on the bill will be singers Christian Scott, Jay Ellis and 2XL, who are a new duo on the block.
On that particular night I shall be helping my daughter celebrate her birthday, so I will be absent from the event. This is a bit of shame really as Horbury concert secretary Stan Breedon was kind enough to take the time to phone the clubland hot-line especially to invite me along. Hopefully I shall pop in and catch the federation at some future date.
The biggest band attraction from the Northeast area at the moment has to to be the brilliant Bernadette Wilde band. The Northeast band scene is a very vibrant one and the bands from up there regularly come and play the clubs in the Yorkshire area.
Hemsworth Miners' Social Club at Fitzwilliam will receive a visit from Bernadette and the boys this weekend when they make a Sunday night appearance at the club.
Having now started my regular summer season work, I am now bumping into lots of local acts who are likewise finding work on the East Coast at the moment.
During the regular Tuesday night summer appearances at a well-known holiday centre near Bridlington, I am currently taking along newcomers with me to provide guest spots.
The new faces gaining experience of holiday centre work with me at present are the likes of Vicki McCartney, Abby James, Stacey Thompson, Katie Stephenson and young Hemsworth girl Chelsea Radford. It's great to give youth a chance and I shall be reporting more on how these new and talented acts got on in my show in a future issue.
I have also been fortunate to catch the likes of Fifth Avenue, Laura Ellis and JD Adams in various shows lately. In fact JD Adams is currently appearing on Wednesdays and Thursdays in Bridlington in a theatre show, while Friday nights take her up, with the same show, to the splendid resort of Whitby and The Pavilion Theatre.
I went to see her show in 'Brid' last Thursday and really enjoyed the matinee show that I caught.
The existence of the abundance of seaside work at this time of year is the main reason for the acute shortage of suitable acts on Saturday nights for the clubs these days. It seems that there are precious few available acts around in the event of problems on summer Saturday nights.
Another reason for the shortage is that there are fewer full-time professional acts around these days and the part-time people often do not want to work during the summer holiday period, due to holidays or arrangements that they can now only make during the high summer for their children.
