The Kinsley and Fitzwilliam senior citizens party was held earlier this week and, as ever, everything went with a swing, with all those attending enjoying food and entertainment galore.
Tina Stubbs is the local treasurer of this party fund and she called the clubland hot-line this week.
Tina wanted to say that the rest of the committee would like to say a big thankyou to Kinsley British Legion Club, Kinsley Coronation Club, The Ki
nsley Hotel and, of course, Hemsworth Miners Social Club, where the party was held, for all their help in making this large-scale event go so well.
Entertainment was provided by glamorous singer Lisa Pearson and local lad Chris Lafferty, along with child entertainers Lee Lambert and Chelsea Radford, who also put in welcome appearances.
Community events like this one are always worth reporting here in the Express and I am more than happy to do so.
Clubland star Siobhan Phillips is involved in some pretty nice work at present as she is touring alongside chart star Peter Grant.
Many people will remember that Peter was the last winner of the Northern Startrail talent competition during my time as producer and compere of this show.
Since then he has recorded his first album New Vintage, which went right up to number eight in the album charts.
Peter is now touring and spreading the word about the new album and Siobhan is on the bill with Peter as supporting artiste during the UK leg of Peter's theatre tour, which they are currently both working on.
Siobhan was in touch only the other day and she tells me they have having a great time in some fabulous theatre venues.
I also hope to have details shortly on the line-up at The Wakefield and Pontefract Newcomers Awards show.
One hot tip I have been given is regarding a girl from Rothwell, who is simply known as 'Tara'.
My spies tell me that she is sure to receive an award from our federation.
Ryhill Liberal Club continues with its three-night-a-week entertainment programme and the merry month of May looks pretty good to me with the likes of Jonathan Carroll, Sonya and Mike Summers all popping up during the next few weeks.
Jonathan Carroll is a very busy chap at the moment as he is looking after the Wakefield Starsearch talent competition being staged at Westgate Common Club in Wakefield every Wednesday.
The vivacious Sonya was on great form last week when she appeared at Albion Street wmc in Castleford.
My spies tell me the lovely Sonya is as humourous as ever and that her act simply goes from strength to strength.
Mike Summers is from the Penistone area and I hear from his agent Danny Andrews that he is really doing the business in our clubs.
It seems that with entertainment like this, 'The Lib' simply can't fail.
If you have any news or views on clubland entertainment, I would really like to hear from you.
Just call the clubland hotline and leave your messages on the answering machine on 01924 220211. Alternatively you could write to me at the Express or e-mail mark-ritchie@btconnect.com
