Make a Night of it down at t'Pit Club

One of the country's best-known showband-style attractions, Hollywood Nights, will be in our area this weekend when Hemsworth Miners Social Club will be their destination on Sunday evening.
I must admit, I haven't seen this band since they appeared quite a few years ago at the Showcall Showcase, when the event was held down in Stratford-upon-Avon.
I hear that they are still doing the business though, and this should provide the usual large audience at this venue, which is known locally as 'The Pit Club', with an excellent evening's entertainment.
Ryhill Liberal Club has some interesting visitors on the entertainment front over the next week or two with the likes of Kevin Kitchen, Alistair Raine and Laura Loxley all coming up.
Kevin is a successful jingle writer for TV and radio and he also performs on stage as a singer and guitarist.
Young Laura is an up-and-coming newcomer, who is starting to make her name in the clubs, while Alistair Raine is a Sheffield based entertainer, who is really getting noticed at the moment.
The Wakefield and Pontefract concert secretaries federation will hold their monthly meeting and showcase at Wakefield City club this month.
October 26 is the date for the diary of all talent spotters and it should be noted that you don't have to be a club official to attend concert secretaries federation shows. Sometimes these evenings can be a very good bet for a night out, so why not make the journey over? The club can be found at the bottom of Kirkgate in Wakefield just behind the social security building.
Glamorous singer Carrie Michaels will be presenting the show at Wakefield City Club and acts like Elaine King and Spirit and Destiny are also set to appear.
I went along to catch Carrie's act only a few weeks ago and I must say she has worked very hard on her act since I saw her last and anyone who works this hard really does deserve a bit of success and a chance to be seen by people who book acts into other areas of showbusiness as a whole.
Carrie tells me she is really looking forward to her big moment in the national spotlight, when she appears in the Showcall Showcase event down in the West Midlands next week.
She will be just one of 150 or so acts who will appear on the four-day long event this year.
Other well-known clubland acts from this area who are set to appear include Shirley Ann Scott, CJ Harper and Saul.
