We seem to be wallowing in memories of clubland past in this week's column due to my recent mention of the great days at Kinsley Farmers Club.

The Farmers was a regular haunt of mine at one time and I remember visiting the venue and enjoying bands like Method, Pinkertons Colours, Nite Skool and many others.
More recently and particularly in the early 1980s I recall enjoying top bands like The Gents, Zoot and the Froot and China Garden.
Clearly I was not alone as the comparatively high number of e-mails and phone messages revealed.
Kinsley club-goer Melvyn Buckley is always willing to reminisce, as is Keith McIntyre and Express readers Sue Williams, Julie Bright and Keith Jones.
All of them were keen to point out that some great venues and bands existed back in the 1960s and 70s.
Venues like Seven Miles Out, The Soldiers Club and The Melbourne were all fondly remembered and, as I too was brought up in this area, I enjoyed reading about everyone's memories of clublands heydays.
All of the calls had one common strand, that clubland simply isn't what it once was.
Well, this is beyond dispute, but I still maintain that although the atmosphere is different, the trading conditions are a lot more problematic and the attention span of the average clubland audience is much less. Nevertheless, we still have some very impressive bands and acts to enjoy.
I am delighted to report that I have been engaged to present the South Yorkshire clubland awards show, which will be staged at Crookes Club in Sheffield on July 12.
Bands like One Way and Soul Story will be on stage and they are both well worth watching.
South Kirkby-born Sasha Lawrence is another award-winner and, in my view, she is one of the best entertainers this area has ever produced.
Also, there are Tony Wayne, Jade Adams and Siobhan Phillips in the solo field.
There are also top duos like Scandal, No Contest, Rio Madness and all the others who brighten up our clubland stages with their respective talents every single week.
The point I am trying to make is that, while it is great to look back and remember clubland's illustrious past, it is also nice to celebrate what we have going on in 2007.
Clubland is still alive and kicking.....just! But the talent is as strong as ever it was.
Last week I worked in a double bill in the Rochdale area with local duo Aztec.
John and Karen, who make up the act, really did the business in what was a comedy audience comprising almost all men at a sports presentation evening.
Aztec have to be one of the most enduringly popular duos out there at present and I'm sure that many clubs will already have dates in their schedules for this great double act, so remember the name and go along and see them in action.
Finally this week I have to apologise to South Kirkby Miners Club.
I was meant to be appearing at the club last week, but due to circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to fulfill the engagement and I sent my friend, Danny Andrews, along instead.
I hear that Danny had a very good night and I hope to see everyone there again in the future.
If you have any news or views for this column, I would like to hear from you.
