Far-flung outpost still attracts the crowds for showcase

THE Drax Sports and Social Club was the host for the latest Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries Federation showcase.
This far-flung clubland outpost still attracted a full house, consisting of talent spotters, concert secretaries, club officials and members of the club-going public.
Agent and entertainer Harry Turnstyle presented the show and he introduced Sonya, Blush and Aidey Wells.
Along with many others in the audience, I was disappointed that Hemsworth duo The P45s were unable to appear, although one half of the duo, Craig, had come along to see the show and was seated in the audience, along with his girlfriend, the glamorous clubland singer Nikita. Hopefully I will finally catch one of their shows at a future date.
Sonya's much anticipated return to clubland was a peculiar affair in the end. She has apparently been back singing for a couple of weeks in the clubs and informed us that she had strained her voice a little, which was why she appeared on stage with a friend called Karen, with whom she sang a number of duets.
Aidey Wells gave us his impression of Elvis and rather amusingly, given that he lives in Castleford, even spoke in the familar southern American drawl. Aidey is coming on a treat these days and I suspect there is much more to come from this young man than an Elvis impression.
Girl duo Blush, who stepped into the breach at the last minute in the absence of other acts, really distinguished themselves. The addition of live keyboards and saxophone made Sarah and Jane, who make up Blush, real prospects for success in my view.
There's a lively bank holiday weekend in prospect at Ryhill Liberal Club as the Saturday night attraction will be top boy duo Dual Impact. 'The Lib' is the last of the true entertainment clubs in the Ryhill and Havercroft area and deserves support.
Boy band fever will be in evidence at Hemsworth Miners Social Club on Sunday evening as clubland favourites Storm will no doubt induce a scream or two from the females present. Why not go along if you can?
