We start this week with news of a major fundraiser gig, which is set to take place in our area on Friday, June 27.
South Kirkby Cricket Club junior section will benefit from the proceeds of this show, which is to be staged at South Kirkby Miners Club.
The young cricketers have a splendid facility at this venue, which I visited only a few weeks ago to attend a fu
nction in the club concert room.
The star attraction on stage is a must for all fans of Abba. Mama Mia are a well-known Abba tribute band and they will be on stage for this big night out in South Kirkby.
Up until recently I didn't actually know this great club even existed, but a recent visit put that to rights.
If you fancy checking this place out , it is down the lane very close to The Old Mill pub, which is known locally as 'The Spinner'.
Hemsworth Miners Social Club is another venue, which is known for its sporting facilities.
In fact, a young Geoff Boycott, who was brought up in Fitzwilliam, used to play there.
The club has a great Sunday night in prospect this weekend and the ladies are sure to flock to see Northeast-based boy band-style attraction Foxx, who are set to take to the stage on Sunday evening.
In next week's Express column I shall be featuring a report on the Wakefield Starsearch Grand Final, which I shall be attending and helping to judge.
This particular event took place after I wrote this column so, if you didn't manage to make it along, you can read all about it right here.
This area was represented by girl duo Jaded Lace, who hail from the Kinsley area.
Well-known entertainer Jonathan Carroll will be presenting the show.
The other finalists are Sharp Experience, Danielle Steers, Chloe Street, Tara and Katie Jo.
The American Drifters are set to rock South Kirkby Diamond Jubilee Club on Saturday, June 28.
Tickets are going like the proverbial hot cakes and soul duo Feel The Need are booked to support this superb attraction on the night.
The place is sure to be packed, so why not go along and get your tickets as soon as possible.
I took another look at the brilliant duo Scandal the other week.
Some people reckon they are the most entertaining duo on the club scene at present and I couldn't really argue with that opinion. Scandal are a real knockout!
The most recent acts I've seen in action are Louise Martell and Rob Russell.
Louise is a singer from Sleaford, in Lincolnshire, who is working many clubs in Yorkshire at the moment and I can thoroughly recommend her.
Rob is a great keyboard player and singer, who was once part of the top duo Sample This.
Both of these acts are well worth a look.
If you have any news of views for this column, I would like to hear from you.
