South Kirkby British Legion Club is enjoying a good spell of live acts at the moment and this weekend looks like an absolute belter for the club.
Leeds C&IU entertainments section award-winner Nicky Darren will be on stage at South Kirkby on Friday, followed by impressive duo Sister Sister on Saturday and a former member of the Phixx boy band Nik Major will pop up on Sunday.
Forthcoming attra
ctions at the club include the superb Jade Adams and the actor and entertainer Chris Wood.
With entertainment of this standard, how can they go wrong?
I heard a whisper a couple of weeks ago about a new talent show, which could be setting up for business in the Upton area.
When I know more about this project you can rest assured that you'll hear about it first right here in the Express.
Boy band Diesel will be filling the dance floor and making the girls scream at Hemsworth Miners Social Club in Fitzwilliam when these hunky guys hit the stage on Sunday evening.
You can expect quite a crowd for that one.
Among the acts I have been fortunate enough to see on my travels lately are Danny Tetley, Jo-Anne and Duplicate.
What you see is what you get from Danny, with his unusual singing voice and his wild and bawdy sense of humour. In the right concert room, Danny can be hugely successful.
Jo-Anne is a girl from Pontefract who really knows how to entertain.
With a presentational improvement, I believe that Jo-Anne could go quite a bit further up the showbusiness ladder.
The same could well be said of boy-girl harmony duo Duplicate.
With a bit of fine tuning on the presentational side of their act, I believe that this Wakefield act could well be cruise ship material, should they choose to go in that direction.
In next week's column I hope to include a report on the Wakefield and Pontefract Concert Secretaries' Federation showcase evening, which was staged earlier this week.
The compere was Paul Stewart and I'm sure that the event will have been successful with this great singer at the helm.
Finally for this week, I wonder how many readers spotted club star CJ Harper's success on ITV talent show Britain's Got Talent last weekend.
I'm afraid I don't know CJ very well, but I know that he works the clubs in this area extensively. I'm sure that his many friends and fans in this area will have been cheering him on.
If you have any news or views for this column I would like to hear from you.
